Tanya Ragir is a figurative sculptor who works in a variety of mediums and styles. Much of the work is inspired by the sensual relationship between land form and human form. By framing details of the figure, then changing the scale, one can have both a more intimate relationship to the form and a separation from its human-ness.
"When sculpting people, I am interested in the essence of that person. I perceive beauty as authenticity, not perfection. In all my work I have a great reverence for grace, and attempt to find a balance between sensuality and power."
Tanya received a Bachelor's Degree in Sculpture and Dance from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1976. Her work is in many private collections, has been shown internationally, and she has received numerous awards. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
